Chicago Holiday Events & Seasonal Things To Do

The city is full of fun and excitement this holiday season with tree lights, spirited decor and beautiful snowflakes decorating the grounds of downtown.  We will give our BEST picks for Chicago attractions, festive dining options and happenings for children of all ages.

Navy Pier's Winter Wonder Fest is a great way to entertain the whole family with rides, live entertainment, music, games and a skating rink.  The entire extravaganza is decorated with beautiful ornaments upon trees.  Once you get hungry head on over to the Billy Goat Tavern for an entertaining way to receive a great burger.

The next stop is a walk in the park at Millennium Park one of Chicago's newest accomplishments.  An astounding sight to see all year round is in full swing for the season with a skate rink located just outside the Park grill where you can grab a bite to eat and re-energize.  Do not pass through without a stop at Cloud Gate or "the BEAN" where the surrounding snow often adds to the artistic beauty of the piece.

Shopping the Magnificent Mile is an absolute must if you are in the neighborhood.  Major shoppers be sure to visit Macy's, Westfield, 900 North Michigan Avenue and Water Tower Place.  Looking for sports apparel hit up Nike Town or cruise on over to Apple for sleek technology including the newest iPod products.  While you are in the area stop at the John Hancock Center for a dining experience at the Cheesecake Factory.

Hancock Holiday Mountain Railroad

While you wait for a table take a gander at the magnificent holiday train display in the main lobby and venture outdoors and check out the enormous Christmas Tree illuminating the area.

Sears Skydeck

Venture on over to the other side of town and head up to the top of the Sears Tower Skydeck.  Take in the history of Chicago as you tour the city from the top of the tower.  The inner wrappings of the Skydeck contain great insight to the historic events and people that have made the city what it is today.  Of course, the view is outstanding as well providing a unique way to see the sights of Chicago from above.

Take the whole family up to the historic north side of Chicago and visit the Lincoln Park Zoo for the festive holiday "Zoo Lights", a huge hit year after year.  See your favorite animals, decorated lights througout the park and enjoy a hot beverage as you tour the landscape.

Lincoln Park "Zoo Light" Features:

  • Santa's Safari
  • Ice Carving
  • Giant Snow Globes
  • Dinner, Wine & Treats
  • Endangered Species Carousel
  • Family Crafts
  • African Safari Ride
